Together we protect our health

Help us track flu, COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses in Cyprus — in near real time, straight from the community.

Help us track flu, COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses in Cyprus — in near real time, straight from the community.

Every week, thousands of volunteers across Cyprus report — in under a minute — whether they’ve had any cold or flu-like symptoms. This gives public health researchers an early and accurate picture of how respiratory illness is spreading, well before it shows up in hospital or clinic data.

It only takes a minute every week.

Every adult (18+) in Cyprus can participate.

What exactly will I report?

  • Once per week we ask you if you had any symptoms of disease over the past 7 days.
  • In case you had symptoms, we ask for a few additional details, and also whether you tested yourself for respiratory viruses.
  • The first time we ask you for a few basic demographic and baseline health information.
  • All information are completely anonymous — researchers know neither who you are, nor what your email address is.

Why does this matter?

Traditional surveillance only sees people who visit a doctor.

PNOE sees everyone — including those staying at home with a mild cold.

This way it gives public health authorities a more complete and timely picture of respiratory illness in Cyprus, helping to detect the start of flu season earlier.

At the same time it lets all of us know when it’s the time to protect our health, and the health of other people.

  • That way you know what is going on in the community: when and which viruses are circulating

(Note: results will start being published once a minimum number of volunteers enrol in PNOE).
